Official Raspberry Pi Debug Probe

The newly launched Raspberry Pi Debug Probe is an affordable, all-in-one USB-to-serial debug and UART bridge. It includes all the essential hardware and cables needed for seamless, “plug-and-play” debugging of the Raspberry Pi Pico as well as a wide range of other microcontroller and microprocessor platforms.

The Debug Probe offers both a processor serial debug interface—typically the ARM Serial Wire Debug (SWD) interface—and a standard UART interface. Both functions use a compact 3-pin debug connector, following the Raspberry Pi 3-pin debug connector specification.

The Raspberry Pi Debug Probe comes as a complete kit that includes the probe unit inside a plastic enclosure, a USB cable, and three types of debug cables to support most development setups. Although designed specifically for Raspberry Pi devices, it provides standard CMSIS-DAP debug and UART interfaces over USB, making it versatile enough to debug other hardware or serve as an economical USB-to-UART solution.

Built on the Raspberry Pi Pico hardware design, the Debug Probe runs the open-source Picoprobe firmware. Firmware updates work exactly the same way as on a Raspberry Pi Pico, making it easy to install the latest Picoprobe release or even load custom firmware.
